Hundreds of students set to benefit from best in tech

Not a bad way to start the new year…we’ve just announced Fujitsu is aiming to sign up to 20 more education institutions to our Education Ambassador Programme in partnership with Intel.

It means hundreds more students across the UK will have BETTer access to the latest technology and digital skills development.

We launched the programme at BETT 2015 – and in just 12 months we have 10 schools, colleges and universities signed up to the programme, with 9 hubs already opened in 2015.  So it only feels right that we were able to pledge our commitment to grow the scheme further at BETT this year.

If you’re not familiar with what we’re doing, here’s how it works. We’ve been setting up Innovation Hubs in education institutions across the country to equip students and teachers with the best in tech.

We believe that by putting technology at the heart of education you can enhance teaching and unleash students’ full potential.

This aligns with the Department for Education’s Further Education Learning Technology Action Group (FELTAG), which wants to identify the obstacles preventing further education providers from taking full advantage of technology.

This latest batch of hubs will feature Fujitsu and Intel technology, providing both students and educators with the opportunity to develop their digital skills.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the last two decades in and around the education sector, it’s that passion goes a long way in supporting and driving achievement.

However, passion in isolation is sometimes not enough. Education needs collaboration and support from wider industry to really support the right skills development for young people. This is about helping people get ready for the workforce of the future.

As if that wasn’t enough good news for education…

We’ve also announced the launch of “Operation Innovation” – a national competition for University Technical Colleges, to give students the chance to apply their skill and knowledge in a more real-world context.

Launching this year, teams will use Fujitsu internet of things (IoT) technology to invent a commercial solution that could overcome a challenge facing civilisation, or provide a solution to a problem.

The winning team will be awarded a trip to Fujitsu Laboratories HQ in Germany and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present their idea to Fujitsu’s Chief Technical Officer, Dr Joseph Reger.

If that wasn’t incentive enough, we’ll also evaluate the real-world potential of the winning team’s concept – so you could see your ideas brought to life.
