As Responsible Business Week gets started, we are proud to announce Fujitsu has been awarded an outstanding score of 99% and the top 5 star ranking in the Business in the Community (BITC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index.
We’re delighted that this recognition places us among the best performing responsible businesses in the UK – and thought we’d explain a bit more about how we put responsible business into practice.
For Fujitsu, being a responsible business is a hugely important issue. Be that by taking action on the environment, inclusion, social action, safety, or wellbeing – corporate responsibility is at the heart of everything we do. Operating responsibly is the right thing for our customers, our employees, and our society.
We take a pro-active approach when it comes to charity and support work. Our UK and Ireland CEO Michael Keegan recently took part in a CEO charity sleepout with Shelter, an organisation which we have partnered with to deliver positive change.
Looking back to last year, a Fujitsu team of 300 volunteers were involved in the planting of the iconic ceramic poppies at the Tower of London to help mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. On top of this, fund-raising is a big part of company culture and in last two years we’ve raised more than £90,000 for Children in Need.
But it is not just charity work which is important for responsible business – it’s also vital to take a sustainable approach to the way you operate and the customers you serve.
In just one example, this approach can be seen in the close working relationship Fujitsu has developed with the Highland Council. For the fifth year in succession Fujitsu is helping the Council to complete its Carbon Footprint report and provide recommendations for CO2 emissions reduction.
This has helped the Council reduce CO2 emissions by almost two thirds from 7281 tonnes in 2010 to 2615 tonnes in 2013. The Carbon Footprint for FY 2014 is currently being compiled and expected to yield even better results. We’re also delighted that the Highland Council will be Fujitsu’s first UK & Ireland customer to adopt our new Sustainability offering and complete a Benchmarking review.
Inclusion is also a vital ingredient here – and it’s important that people feel comfortable enough to bring their whole selves into work. This helps recruitment, retention, productivity and encourages a positive and respectful environment. At the heart of this is Fujitsu’s global philosophy of respecting individuals and society – and our LGB Shine Network is a prime example of this.
These are just some of the ways we’re making responsible business a reality – there’s a lot more going on too! Follow our responsible business section here for more, or @Fujitsu_UK on Twitter.
