As we head into an Autumn that feels more like a winter, small business news continues to make headlines with the FSB welcoming the European Commission’s new strategy announcement, a report finding SMEs are still not moving with the digital times and news that the skills gap is hitting SMBs along with everyone else.

  • The Federation of Small Businesses has welcomed the European Commission’s new trade strategy which includes a dedicated focus on small business. The commission announced that all EU trade agreements will include provision considerations for small and medium-sized enterprises
  • According to a report by domain supplier GoDaddy 60% of UK businesses with five employees or less – which constitute almost a fifth of Britain’s small business population – are lacking an online presence. Of the 500 businesses polled, 54% of the business owners who did not have a website said they were worried about their future prospects and were expecting zero growth over the next three to five years
  • Over three quarters of UK business owners struggle to find the right employees according to’s recent study, with 67% of those surveyed saying applicants don’t have the right skills and 77% stating they struggled to find the right kinds of people to work for them.
